Last Wednesday evening, April 13, at Georgetown’s Robert W. Windom, Jr. Public Library, a discreet ceremony took place in which William ‘Bill’ Tucker, Chairman and President of Georgetown Telephone Company and Georgetown Broadband, Inc., presented Librarian Linda DeWitt with a check for $2,500.

L-R: Joie Miller, Linda DeWitt, Librarian; Bill Tucker; and Mayor Robert W. Windom, Jr.

Also in attendance were Georgetown Mayor, Robert W. Windom, Jr., and Joie Miller, General Manager of Georgetown Telephone Company, and Georgetown Alderman, Hudson Chadwick.
Mayor Windom thanked Mr. Tucker on behalf of the Town of Georgetown for his generosity and praised his benevolent spirit, saying: “Your generosity and commitment to our town and library exceeds the highest vision any citizen could dream about.”

Mr. Tucker related how, on a previous visit, he had been so impressed with the library, its staff, and their devotion to service in the community that such devotion and dedication to service should not go unrewarded.

Librarian Linda DeWitt was thrilled almost beyond words with this unexpected gift. She, along with thousands of other librarians across the state and the nation, face daily the hardship of trying to manage with ever-decreasing revenues due to cutbacks at all levels of government.

The Town of Georgetown, its citizens, and its public library are proud, and fortunate, to have friends like Mr. William Tucker and Georgetown Telephone Company.
