Lifeline Service Offerings

As part of its service offerings, Georgetown Telephone a program to assist qualifying low income individuals with the charges for their telephone service, Lifeline. This program is part of the Federal Universal Service Fund program instituted by the Federal Communications Commission and overseen by the Universal Service Administrative Company.

Lifeline service offers a qualifying individual a discount to the costs of that individual’s telephone service.  Only one Lifeline discount is allowed per household, Lifeline is non-transferable.  The current discount provided under the Company’s Lifeline service is $9.25 per month for each month that the customer qualifies. To receive this discount, an individual must be a participant in one of the following programs or meet the income based criteria requirement: Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA), Supplemental Nutrition assistance Program (SNAP), Low Income Home energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Medicate, National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).  Any additional qualifying program established by your state; or your household income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Other terms and conditions apply. Similarly, as long as a qualified individual agrees to toll blocking, that individual is not required to pay a deposit prior to our service being offered.  It is also important to note that Lifeline Customer households cannot receive lifeline assistance from multiple carriers.
